Carnival 2011

Carnival is defined as a public celebration that takes place immediately before the Christian Lent, the dates can vary and usually range from late January to March in the year. This festival combines elements that make it unique, such as the costumes, parades and street festivals.

The Carnival celebrations this year will be dedicated to one of the most important genres of the seventeenth century, the opera, which participates in the drama of the scene, instrumental and vocal music. Over time, it has become one of the fundamental signs of cultural identity. The Celebrations Councillor from Arrecife, Eduardo Lasso, invited the shops, street musicians, carnival parades and other groups in the capital to actively participate in a carnival, announced that the aim is to revive the beginnings of opera, with live music, drama, poetry, performing arts and dance.

Arrecife Carnival takes places from 25th February to the 9th March 2011, the main parade will take place on Monday 7th March. Puerto del Carmen will be from the 10th to 12th March, so the main parade will be on Saturday 12th March and Tinajo from the 25th - 27th March.

New Development will become a reality soon!

The new hotel (96 new apartments, plus sports facilities) will receive final approval soon.  CLS are "very, very, very, very close" to receiving this.

The project should be completed by November 2013.

A model of the new development is now on display in Recepcion at CLS.

A TV has also been set up in Recepcion to show a video of the new apartments and sports facilities. See this link for photos

Playtime - Major Renovations Start

Major works on Playtime are now in progress and a team of construction workers are on site.  The work will take around 2 months and Playtime has been moved temporarily to Apartment 033B.  See also earlier posts about this.

I'm your "longest-living timeshareowner"! I shall probably be coming out to CLS 19 - 26 May 2011 and will

almost certainly be unaccompanied. If you come across any female (preferably a T.S.O.) who might be

Members' Lounge during Playtime renovations

From the 22nd of February and for around 2 months – Members Lounge will be used for a couple of hours during the day time for PLAYTIME.


Playtime is going to be totally renovated and apartment 060 A will be taken to make toilets for the “small ones”.

 Most of the activities will be located outside but they need to have a space in case of bad weather.

CLS think that it will not take 2 months to renovate – the technical department want to have it ready before Easter – but just in case – they are saying 2 months.
