British Triathlon Squad @ CLS

The GB Triathlon Squad has just completed their winter training at Club La Santa.
They also caught up with BBC Sport who were seeing how preparations were going ahead of the London 2012 Olympics.
You can watch the video on the BBC website here – be warned, if you’re snowed in in the UK, you will immediately want to jump onboard a plane headed for Lanzarote! (Winter deals are here!).
Amongst the team were Jonathan Brownlee, this year’s U23 World Triathlon Champion and European ITU Junior Champion (2009).
"There was a great feeling around the resort,” he told us. “Lots of athletes and good atmosphere and entertainment.”
While F1’s Jenson Button usually comes here to unwind with a triathlon, Jonathan took time out from the tri with go-karting.
Also on the squad is his brother, Alistair Brownlee, the World ITU Triathlon Champion 2009; Jodie Swallow the double reigning ITU Long Course World Triathlon Champion 2009 & 2010; and Helen Jenkins ITU world Champion (2008):
“It’s been a great start to the winter’s training ready for 2011 racing season. Best facilities, great food in the Pool Bar, and convenient and good food in the Atlántico… And good treadmills in the Fitness Suite!” she said.
Other members of the really strong GB team include:
Tim Don the World ITU Olympic Distance Triathlon Champion 2006 and 4 time British National Champion hadn’t been here since 2000.

Many of our athlete guests come to Club La Santa to do their winter training. We are proud to welcome the European and World medallist Jenny Meadows from the UK. Jenny Meadows has set great records in 800 m running in 2010 and now she has been here during her winter training with her coach and husband Trevor Painter.
It was the first time Jenny Meadows was visiting Club La Santa and commented on the motivation and inspirational feeling you get when you are among the other athletes as well. Training 3 times a day does not make it easy to participate in the other great sports activities available on the Club La Santa Weekly Program, but Jenny talked about her day off where she intended to join the Yoga and Pilates.
Trevor Painter went on telling about the season - from June – August, and the motivation Jenny finds during the winter, i.e. personal goals like beating personal records. “It is always a motivation that the weather is great and it is surprisingly great to run at the track. I won 2 races on a blue track like that”, Jenny said with a big smile.
Her biggest achievement in 2010 was to win the silver medal in the World Indoor Championship in Doha, Qatar.
In the meantime, the preparation for 2011 is right at the corner. “I would like to win the gold medal in the World Outdoor Championship in Daegu, South Korea in September, and I am also going for the gold medal at the European Indoor Championship in Paris”, Jenny said with confidence.

Julian Brind
Very sad to hear of the sudden death on 19th december of Julian Brind, UK TSO and ITSO member, husband of Charlotte. He and Charlotte have been frequent and regular visitors to CLS for many years and he will be greatly missed. He attended the UK AGM in October and was last at CLS in early December.

Apartment Renovations
Just to confirm that work has started. Tower 50 by Reception is being done first and currently the "B" side of tower 51 is also closed. The final model design for the new renovations is likely be decided during the course of the work on tower 50.
