Lanzarote Ironman 2010 Results
Lanzarote Ironman 2010 Results
(From CLS UK)
Congratulations to everyone who took part in the 19th Ironman Lanzarote.
It was a hugely eventful race, particularly so for the women’s winner Catriona Morrison. The Scot spent more than 30 minutes waiting for a mechanic to turn up to fix a broken chain. In fact, so long was the wait, rumour reached the finishing line that she had pulled out.
Not so, her 8 minute lead before the delay was enough to work her way back into the pack and finish ahead of England’s Louise Collins and Germany’s Nicole Woysch. Bella Bayliss of GB finished fourth.
In spite of everything, Catriona finished in 10:03:53. Strangely enough, her training partner, Chrissie Wellington, had to wait 10 minutes for a mechanic back in 2008.
Catriona told The Edinburgh Evening News:
“There were phone calls galore to try and get the mechanic to me, so I hydrated, ate some food, sat in the shade and shot the breeze with the locals and spectators.
“Eventually, with a big shove from a couple of German boys, I was back on the road.
“I passed four girls on the third lap but, even in the last 5.5km, I wasn’t sure I was going to do it – a gap of 1min 40secs seemed like an eternity.”
Llanos
A win for Eneko Llanos in the men’s race, although it wasn’t all plain sailing for the Spaniard.
GBR’s Stephen Bayliss led out of the water and fellow Brit, Philip Graves took control at the start of the cycling. Sadly for both of them, it wasn’t their day, Stephen fell off the pace and dropped out, as did Philip, after a fall from the bike.
Worth noting is Maik Twelsiek’s performance on the bike, an unbelievable 04:40:58, breaking a 15-year course record and putting the German well into the lead when it came to the run.
It didn’t last for long though, with Eneko passing him first, then Bert Jammaer by the half-way stage.
By the last it was between Bert and Eneko, with just 2 minutes separating them.
A perfect finale between the Ironman Lanzarote’s dominant athletes, Eneko has won in 2010 and 2007, while Bert took the title in 2008 and 2009.

Spring 1985 Photos - do you recognise anyone?
Enjoyed so much your blog, so I had to jump into my photo collection and search for first visit – in spring 1985. At that time it was very popular to travel with aerobic groups to warmer places, thus 40 women/ladies/girls from Norway spent one marvellous week, training in the badminton hall some hours in the morning, then doing Lanzarote in daytime, and spending evenings either in the night club, “Cuckoo’s Nest” (later the Pizzeria) or dancing (!) in the Green Bar.
I got so interested in the place, so started with two T/S weeks immediately, and the came with husband and three small sons later in the summer. And we have never regretted! Here you have some glimpses of the “Green Team” then + something you never see these days, I presume: Presentation of candidates for the title of “The Lanzarote Beauty Queen”!
Kind regards,
Ingrid (Briseid)
