CLS are hoping for the final approval on the basis set out below within the next few months. Work will start immediately it is received.
The law has now been changed and this will mean that the CLS project will be the only one to escape the 8-year ban on new hotel development in the Canary Islands.
The issue still to be decided is approval for work on the existing complex. The final licence for the new hotel will include a condition that CLS bring at least some of the existing apartments up to 3* standards. Approval for this work is also needed and the real questions seem to be “how many apartments will CLS have to upgraded to 3* and when?”.
Upgrading to 3* is not the same as a CLS renovation. Currently approximately 125 apartments out of 393 have been renovated. Renovation includes complete renewal of all service pipes, cables and equipment and, where necessary to achieve this, excavation of the floor. Floor areas for the bedrooms are normally 9 square metres. 3* upgrades require that bedrooms be enlarged to 14 square metres. The only way CLS can do this is to create new 2 bedroom apartments from the existing stock and to change the layouts to provide the increased bedroom sizes.
It is likely that the condition referred to above will be to create thirty 3* apartments. CLS hope they may be allowed to do these after building the new hotel but a condition may be imposed that they must build fifteen first, before starting work on the new development. The remaining 250 apartments would be then be renovated “normally”.

INFORMATION
As a guest staying at Club La Santa it is possible to access the Internet through our 2 main hotspots (at Reception & Square) as well as in the Internet Corner.
All Internet Access at Club La Santa is a paid service, we kindly ask you to read the following information before purchasing Internet access:
BANDWIDTH
Club La Santa is located in scenic surroundings far away from everything – including cabled Internet access (ADSL). The bandwidth we are able to supply to our clients is therefore very limited, as our Internet access is through 1 radio link and 2 satellite connections. Under optimal conditions these connections can supply a total of 3 Mbps downstream, but under normal conditions everyone at the resort; Guests, Offices and Business Services are sharing approximately 2 Mbps. As the 2 Mbps is shared between all users the actual bandwidth per user is very limited (.064Mbps - .256Mbps). In comparison a normal household internet connection is 1 – 20 Mbps.
APPLICATION RESTRICTIONS
Due to the very limited bandwidth available at the resort, not all applications can be used. It is not guaranteed that audio/visual applications such as Skype/Messenger, YouTube, and streaming TV/radio will work at a satisfactory level.
Due to the technical setup use of VPN tunnels for business access, is not supported.
It is possible to send and receive emails through both the Wi-Fi Service and the cables in the Internet Corner. It is recommended to use webmail for this purpose as Club La Santa cannot supply SMTP server access etc.
ACCESSIBILITY
Wireless Internet access is only guaranteed to be available at the Central Square, and at Reception. A separate service exists for Time Share Owners in the Members Lounge.
Wireless access to the Internet is only supported at these locations.
Internet access is also possible with own laptop in the Internet Corner through two cabled connections, or by using one of the five stationary computers in the Internet Corner.
SETUP AND SUPPORT
Before using the Wi-Fi Service, it is important that your computers setup meets all of the following requirements:
• All pop-up blockers are disabled.
• The browser is set to accept cookies.
• The computer must be set to obtain an IP address from a DHCP server.
• All Antivirus and similar software is configured appropriately.
The IT Department will offer limited support to obtain a connection ONLY if the above conditions are met.

Arrecife - nicer than you'd think!
At our weekly TSO meetings, one of my timeshare tips is take a trip to Arrecife. It has a very pleasant promenade, some good shops, places to eat and places of interest to visit.
ARRECIFE
Many visitors will shy away from venturing into the busy capital of Lanzarote. Where else can you find a busy city with a beautiful beach? Follow the coast road through and you will find the parks, El Reducto beach, Castillo San Gabriel, El Charco de San Ginés – the inland marina for small fishing boats and Recova Market, Castillo San José and the port. For shopping park when underneath the Gran Hotel, and walk along the front away from the beach until the road leads to the castle on your right, enter the pedestrian area on the left for the main street. The shops are found within small arcades and along the streets leading onto this road.

La Graciosa - a day trip will be great fun!
La Graciosa is the beautiful island off the Northern tip of Lanzarote and if any TSOs have not taken the ferry ride from Orzola for a day trip, it's well worth a visit.
Don't expect too many shops though....! Nice little harbour and wonderful sandy beaches, if you hire or take a bike.

The pod was recorded by Secac during a census of whales found in the Canary Islands, president of Secac, Vidal Martin said that the Orcinus Orca that can reach 10m in length and over 10,000kg in weight are “one of the most complex mammals culturally.”

STRATVS Bodega

A number of TSOs have reported visiting STRATVS Bodega. It also featured as a drinks station in the recent 1st Lanzarote Wine Run, organised by CLS. I believe the CLS Hotel Manager is also a fan!
The STRATVS bodega is the first one situated on the right hand side of the road when travelling through La Geria from Uga to San Bartolomé, it really is impressive and worth a visit.

Gran Hotel, Arrecife
At the weekly TSO Social Hour at CLS, I often mention that if you are going to Arrecife, it's worth taking the glass-sided lift to the top floor of the 5* Gran Hotel. This is the 17 storey building which escaped Cesar Manrique.... - you can't miss it!/
You can either get the bus to the Bus station in Arrecife from CLS reception or, if you have a car, there is a large underground carpark right underneath the hotel.
There is a nice bar and a restuarant on the top floor, with excellent views.
If you want to see the view, click here!
